From
Kahului
Airport
you can come by way of the beach and Paia or take the new highway (Hwy
37) straight up the hill through the sugarcane fields. If you are in a hurry its
best to follow the map and directions above to take Hwy 37 on up to the Halii
Maile turn off. The map above shows a circuitous route around the airport, which
could possibly be faster under the right circumstances. It is recommended that
you instead take the airport rd. all the way to the big intersection at Hana
Hwy. There turn left which will take you a few miles out of town around the
airport to the intersection with Haleakala Hwy (Hwy 37). Turn right here and
drive up the new Highway 5 miles to the intersection with Halii
Maile rd. Turn left here and drive another 2.5 miles to Baldwin Ave where you
turn right for the remaining 1.2 miles to the Banyan Tree House Bed and
Breakfast.
However if, like most of our guests, you arrive in the early afternoon, you
may want to take the much more scenic route by way of the beaches, Paia and the
picturesque Baldwin Ave. If this is you, after getting on Hana Hwy. stay in the left lane to go
straight through the intersection through a few more miles of sugarcane and
along Spreklesville beach, Baldwin beach, and finally just before Paia town is
Paia beach. After taking advantage of the beach on you way you'll probably want
to stop in colorful Paia for a meal or just to stroll around. Its wise to decide
before hand as the best parking is just at the beginning of town, look for it on
the right. There are several other parking lots in town, behind Charlies
restaurant off of Hana hwy and just past Mana food store on Baldwin; both are
usually packed however. All of the restaurants here offer great food and
reasonable prices.
Assuming you are back on Hana Hwy. just entering town, go a few hundred feet
more to the center of town and the only traffic light on
Baldwin
Avenue, turn right and from here you can continue on up the hill
6
miles
to
Banyan Tree House bed and breakfast, just before Makawao town. Along the
way, just after leaving Paia, about 1 mile up the avenue, you will notice the
remains of the old Paia sugar mill. The hamlet of "Upper Paia" starts just after
the old mill and continues on up to Paia Elementary school across the road from
the historic Holy Rosary Church. During late spring and the summer months Baldwin avenue is a
complete visual extravagance, all along the roadside are old flowering trees called
"Rainbow" or "Shower" trees. The views of Haleakala or the ocean and the West
Maui Mountains are also quite spectacular during the ten minute drive up to the Banyan
Tree House bed and breakfast
which will be
on
your
left hand side.
Look
for
big
white sign saying "Banyan Tree House", if you go too far you'll
get to the Veterans' Cemetery which you can't miss. Just turn around here and
drive back down the road a few hundred yards.

From Makawao Town: From
the four way stop in the center of Makawao, at the corners of Baldwin and Makawao Avenues, drive down Baldwin
Avenue 0.8 mile to Banyan Tree House on
your
right. When you are close, look for
our entrance on the N. E. side of the road, you should see our small sign out
front "The
Banyan Tree House". (Right hand side going down!)
The Banyan Tree House Bed and Breakfast has 7 individual
cottages and suites. Under the Historic Plantation House roof is one of
the cottages (Plumeria) and all 3 of the suites; it can be rented as a 2, 3 or 4
bedroom house. Each cottage and suite has it's own entrance, private
bathroom and kitchenette. Each kitchenette includes a small refrigerator,
microwave oven, toaster and coffee maker with fresh ground coffee, teas, hot
cocoa etc. Breakfast is served every morning to guests of the suites and
cottages, but is not included with whole plantation house or entire property
rental.
Banyan Tree House Bed and Breakfast
is just outside of Makawao
town, less than 10 minutes from Paia and the North shore beaches.
Haleakala Park is about an hour up the mountain. Haiku, Pukalani, Kula and
HaliiMaile are all close by in
Maui's upcountry area. An ideal central
location for visiting Maui. From here little of
the island is far away.
