This is by far our favorite place to stay on Maui!

We have traveled over for 10 years to visit our daughter and her husband, renting many different places. The Banyan Tree was the most relaxing. Our Gardenia unit had been recently remodeled with tile floors, granite counters in kitchen and bath, nice tiled shower/tub, high ceilings, and double sheet rock for quiet. The gas range in the kitchen was excellent. I spent early mornings on our private patio in devotional time and reading while waiting for the sun to rise. The landscaping is beautiful.

At sunrise I went for a run on my "personal jogging track", the pineapple field next door that Marty has permission to be on. It is going to be a cattle ranch. A road was recently cut around the perimeter making a perfect jogging track with no traffic, dogs, exhaust but with beautiful views. Marty made us very comfortable seeing to our needs. Mona also took care of us bringing an abundance of fresh fruit, juice and always a smile and cheerful spirit. We felt like family.

We had several great BBQs, one evening inviting our kids and their friends for dinner and hot tub. We were close to town, beach, our kids' house, but not so close that we had noise from anything but the birds singing at sunrise. (Such a delight coming from a previous week of snow at home!)

We were already planning our next stay for September in just 6 months. We hope to bring more family and rent the plantation house which is very charming; it has 3 bedrooms each with private bath, a large commercial style kitchen, living room with a stone fireplace, flat screen T.V. for DVDs, sunken patio that is glassed in and view out over the grounds. It is something to truly look forward to. We highly! recommend The Banyan Tree House.

I absolutely loved the Banyan Tree, I was there in Jan. 2009 for 3 weeks. The owner Marty and the caretakers are amazing people, super responsive and helpful. The place is very easy to get to, walking distance from the marvelous Makawao and not too far from the beach. The accommodations are great, in response to the previous review I should stress that during the winter season the pool is not cold if you first take a dip in the hot tub :-), during the summer the pool is perfect. There is basketball and table tennis for the interested.
Cheers, Niko

The Haleakala Highway opens two new lanes which has commuters sighing with relief. Previously for quite a number of years a crew with two trucks would work down the middle of the highway early every weekday morning, placing orange cones to separate off one of the two up bound lanes. This would allow the flood of commuter traffic to flow more easily off the mountain into the cities and south shore areas. Finally this Herculean feat has been completed with two full time up and down hill lanes with a nice island of safety between them. maui bed and breakfast yoga studio

a beautiful 700 sq. ft. yoga and meditation studio, complete with yoga props and a full audio and video systems was completed and opened for use. This event made the Banyan Retreat Center a premier location to host all moderately sized group events on the island of Maui.

The studio is also ideal as a group meeting hall, or for other group functions.

Early summer of 2007 What was previously known as Ginger Cottage has been changed into a new cottage designed and built especially for handicapped people and their caregiver.  It was renamed Sue's Cottage in honor of the handicapped woman it was built for.

Around the premises many other changes have been made in order to upgrade the Banyan Tree House to full handicap access. The walkways have been remade wider and a pool chair to lower and lift handicapped individuals from the swimming pool. Ginger cottage is the only cottage that has two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. Also ideal for small families.

Looking down on Makawao and the North Shore. Refreshing upcountry Maui with the Banyan Tree House bed and breakfast.

Banyan Bed & Breakfast Inn is centrally located on the island of Maui  just outside of Makawao town, less than 10 minutes from Paia and the North shore beaches. Haleakala Park is about an hour up the mountain. Haiku, Pukalani, Kula and HaliiMaile are all close by in Maui's upcountry area. The Kahului airport is less than 15 minutes away. Our guests usually find that little of the island is far away.

The Banyan Tree House bed and breakfast proprietor, Marty, will come to your cottage every morning with a continental breakfast featuring fresh fruit, muffin and juice .
